WINE & OLIVE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM AND THEATRE - CYPRUS
December 2014
Proposed Plan
The wine & olive open-air museum and theatre at Doros village in Cyprus is a project funded by the Europian Union. In the project’s brief, it was suggested to use as displays the equipment for producing wine and olive oil. Residents of the area were proud of their wine and oil products.
The upper surface accommodates the open air museum and creates interesting outdoor and indoor spaces on the lower ground for the visitors to explore. The amphitheatre design follows the slope of the terrain in order to retain the views towards the city and the sea. There are two entrances, the first direct visitors on the upper level and the second on the lower level.
The main design challenge was to bridge the high differences in height. We used a mixture of different height walls to create levels that could be planted and replace the big concrete wall with a green wall. The amphitheatre steps fade on these walls making them shorter.
