BUILDING SOLAR DESIGN - SOLAR DECATHLON PROJECT

UCL 2009

The British Museum (BM), initially built around 1676, is among the most important institutions of its kind. It is a place where visitors continuously go to learn about different civilisations and developments across the globe. Today, the environment as an issue is a major concern, which people can be more informed about.

In view of this, the museum’s architecture, which is a collection of various styles, and which has gone from a simple plan to a complex maze, can itself be the object of environmental study and investigation. Therefore, a new facility, the BM Annexe, was designed, on the BM’s site, to provide information on the museum’s environmental impact, as well as demonstrate that comfort conditions, for the occupants, can be achieved through appropriate design strategies.
